John Clement Bowen, age 77, went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2017.  The youngest of three children, he was born on October 9,1939, in Woodsboro, Texas, but was raised primarily in Victoria, Texas.  He proudly retired after 28 years in the United States Military having served both actic duty in the United States Army and, subsequently, as a reservist in the Army National Guard.  Mr. Bowen spent many years providing for his family as a salesman ranging from cars to furniture to industrial products.  He was an avid gun enthusiast, a long time member of the Castle Hills First Baptist Church and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his partents, John W. Bowen and Alma Sullivan Bowen, sister Mary Bowen Dick and brother Anthony G. Bowen.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Allen Bowen (VHS '60), daughter Elizabeth Stewart and husband Johnny Stewart, son John Allen Bowen and wife Rennette Bowen, daughter Rebecca McGibeny, and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service and celelbration of his life was held Friday, March 31, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the Grace Chapel of Castle Hills First Baptist Church, 2220 NW Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas.  Arrangements were under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home, 14822 Main Street, Lytle, Texas 78052 (830-709-0698.

Johnny Bliznak

John was a close friend in high school.  He was a good guy (I only ran around with good guys.) and lots of fun.  I am sad to learn of his passing.
