After high school, Leon (Wally) attended Victoria College and Sam Houston State University earning a BS degree in History and English. He later earned a masters in Education from Michigan State University. He married Glenda Wick in 1960. They enjoyed 44 years together raising a daughter and a son. Leon had a wonderful career with the Department of Defense Overseas School System where he served 25 years as a teacher, coach, and principal in Japan and Korea. He returned to Texas continuing his career in Texas schools. He spent his last few years working at the University of Houston Victoria and living at his beloved Yellow Creek Ranch south of Hallettsville. It is a peaceful place where he enjoyed the wildlife, reading and visits from his children and granddaughters. He passed away in July 2005 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
