Merlyn Bruce Hartman VIEW PROFILE

Victoria - Merlyn Bruce Hartman, 71, of Victoria passed away  Tuesday, July 31, 2012, in Canada as the result of a motorcycle accident.  He was returning from his ride of a lifetime to Alaska.  Merlyn was born December 18, 1940, in Victoria to the late Rubin C. and Eura Schmidt Hartman. 

He served his country in the United States Army.  Merlyn was retired after 32 years with Union Carbide.  He was a member of First English Lutheran Church, a twenty year member of FELC choir, Luther League sponsor, and Adult Sunday School teacher.

Merlyn was a motorcycle enthusiast.  He was member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, the Christian Motorcycle Association, a life time member of the American Motorcycle Association, a member of the Bikers for Christ, a certified rider coach at the Victoria College for Motorcycle Safety Foundation and a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Alyce Dyer Hartman; daughter Cheri Dawn Hartman and companion, Kevin Glen of Cedar Creek; son, Kristopher Hartman of San Antonio; father-in-law, Jack Quinn; cousins and many extended family members.

The family received friends from 5:30 - 7:30 PM Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM, August 8, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Revs. Dan Fultz and Barney Matocha officiating.  Full military honors followed at Evergreen cemetery under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council.

Pallbearers were Stephen Fuhrman, John Spears, Larry Baxter, Michael Trodt, Royce Krueger and Louis Willeke.  Honorary pallbearers were Jay Williams, Ricky Martinez, Carl Westbrook, Jerry Springer and members of Gold Wing Road Riders Association.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of Grace Presbyterian Church, 3604 N. Ben Jordan, Victoria, TX, 77901, or Adopt A Pet, 8215 Houston Highway, Victoria, TX 77901.
