John Phillip Krebs

Date of Death: February 21, 1967

John Phillip Krebs, 26, son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles H. Krebs died unexpectly Feb. 21, 1967, in Los Angeles, California.  His wife, Donna Grady Krebs, reported that John had been suffering from what seemed to be a slight cold.  She said he awakened her early Saturday having difficulty breathing, and she gave him artificial respiration for 20 minutes until an ambulance arrived.  He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a Los Angeles hospital.

John was born Jan. 25, 1941 in Louisville, Ky. he grew up in Victoria and graduated from Victoria High School in 1959.  He went on to Texas A & M where he earned both academic honors and a commission as a lieutenant in the Army Reserve before graduating in 1963.

After one summer of work and study in Chicago, he went to the University of Southern California on a NASA fellowship at the end of 1963 to work toward his doctor of philosophy degree in physics.  He had completed this work and had had his dissertation accepted at the time of his death.

Survivors: wife; son, Bruce; parents, brothers: Fred, Del, Hank, and Bruce: and sister Julie Krebs.

The family requested that in lieu of the usual contributions, donations be made to the John P. Krebs Math Scholarship Fund at Victoria High School.
